Abstract:This study takes Maliao Village in Leishan County, Southeast Guizhou Province, as its empirical case, focusing on the core contradiction between its material preservation and cultural deactivation. Systematically identifying the cultural space of this Miao village, the study employs a framework of spatial unit identifi cation, temporal and spatial attribute screening, vitality index evaluation and revitalization strategy formulation. Integrating fi eld research with the AHP-FCE model, it constructs a three-dimensional cultural space vitality assessment system comprising place-bearing capacity, cultural continuity and functional vitality. This approach analyzes the underlying mechanisms of cultural space vitality decline in the village and proposes targeted enhancement strategies with corresponding implementation recommendations. The study reveals that the cultural space vitality of Maliao Village exhibits signifi cant imbalances: while material carriers like traditional Miao dwellings and silver-craft workshops remain well-preserved, their spatial carrying capacity is insuffi cient. Disrupted cultural transmission chains weaken continuity, and a monolithic industrial model constrains functional dynamism. The core issue lies in the absence of a synergistic mechanism linking space, culture and industry. Accordingly, a three-pronged enhancement strategy is proposed: precise integration of spatial functions, reconstruction of cultural experience scenarios, and core industrial-cultural transformation. This is complemented by an implementation support system featuring diversifi ed funding, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and long-term operational management. This approach can eff ectively resolve the village’s dilemma of “industrial prosperity coupled with cultural decline,” driving the cultural space toward dynamic development in which form and spirit coexist. This research not only provides a practical pathway for revitalizing Maliao Village’s cultural spaces but also off ers theoretical references and practical paradigms for the living inheritance of cultural heritage and sustainable spatial development in similar industrial ethnic villages.
