Abstract:This study aims to examine the quality and effi ciency of artifi cial landscape forests and identify the factors contributing to their low quality and effi ciency. The goal is to establish a foundation to enhance these parameters in the forests of Chongming Island, Shanghai. Taking the artifi cial landscape forests of Chongming Island as the focal point of evaluation, an assessment system was developed that employs the Analytic Hierarchy Process and the Entropy Weight Method to appraise their quality-effi ciency levels. Based on the evaluation outcomes, detailed diff erential analysis and factor analysis were conducted. Based on an examination of species composition, dominant species, and low quality-effi ciency indicators, strategic measures for improvement across various forest types and schemes for constructing high-quality-effi ciency plant communities were proposed. The Quality- Effi ciency Index of the artifi cial landscape forests in the study area ranged from 0.2123 to 0.6818. The proportion of sample plots by quality-effi ciency level, in descending order, was medium (45%) > good (23%) > relatively good (18%) > poor (14%). Four categories of forests characterized by low quality and effi ciency were identifi ed: unhealthy stand type, poor structural stand type, unsuitable density stand type, and poor landscape benefi t stand type. Corresponding strategies for enhancing quality and effi ciency improvement were proposed, including sanitation cutting, replanting, integrated physical-chemical-biological control, structural adjustment, selective cutting, and pruning. Furthermore, four schemes for establishing high-quality and high-effi ciency plant communities were provided. The overall quality and effi ciency of artifi cial landscape forests on Chongming Island, Shanghai, are at a medium level, necessitating eff ective management measures for improvement.
