Abstract:Green Lake epitomizes the vicissitudes of change in Kunming City, and its formation process is long and tortuous. The thesis adopts the historical data deduction method and historical map interpretation method, according to the timeline of the pre-Yuan Dynasty, Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty, Republic of China, and after the establishment of New China, through deduction and restoration of Green Lake’s cultural and water landscape evolution in the past thousand years. The results show that: (1) the city-lake relationship of Kunming - Green Lake historically presents the spatial characteristics of “neighboring, separated, and integrated”, and Green Lake has completed the transformation from a “water bay near the city” to a “suburban water bay” to “Inner City Lake”; (2) Since the Ming Dynasty, the integration of the city lake space has contributed to the evolution of the relationship between the city lake as a “community of destiny”, and make people and nature in Green Lake produced a sustained state of mutual development, this phase is an essential beginning in the history of cultural landscape building in Green Lake; (3) Green Lake and its surrounding urban land can be categorized as a government office garden, and its cultural landscape has developed rapidly since the Qing Dynasty, showing the transformation of “private garden - temple garden - public garden”, and integrating into a cultural, public landscape and urban living space. The results of this study can provide a reference for the conservation and renewal of the Green Lake Area, the conservation planning and urban renewal of Kunming’s historical landscape, and the urban territorial spatial planning.
