Abstract:The locations of the Ten scenes of West Lake, which was founded in the Southern Song Dynasty, were confirmed after the establishment of the Imperial Stele Pavilions of the Ten scenes of West Lake in the Qing dynasty. There were ups and downs before The Imperial Stele Pavilions became indispensable landscape elements among the Ten scenes of West Lake. This paper uses historical documents, old photos, and field studies to track the history and sort out the landscape pattern evolvement of the Imperial Stele Pavilions of the Ten scenes of West Lake. It concludes that the Imperial Stele Pavilions of the Ten scenes of West Lake were same built in a different year. They have been through the attachment phase and staggered engraving. After three dynasties of Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong, Imperial Stele Pavilions finally took shape in the mid-Qing Dynasty. Due to the historical changes, there came a special stage of replacing scenic spots with pavilions and continuing landscape with pavilions. In the long-term development, It believes that the location, form, and function were constantly adjusted to balance the variational aesthetics and needs during the historical changes and municipal construction.
