The rural landscape is the frontier domain and a critical modern landscape architecture research field. But relevant literature analysis about rural landscapes is absent from the perspective of Landscape Architecture. A bibliometric analysis of rural landscape was carried out using the periodical articles of Chinese Landscape Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Landscape Architecture Academic Journal, Guangdong Landscape Architecture, Journal of Chinese Urban Forestry, Landscape Architecture Frontiers, Journal of Northwest Forestry University, Architectural Journal, City Planning Review, and Urban Planning Forum during the past two decades in CNKI database as data sources through CiteSpace. The results of statistical analysis show that papers increased rapidly after 2012. Beijing Forestry University, Tongji University, and so on are the primary institution; however, cooperation among different institutions is scarce. Paper amount of LIU Binyi, WANG Yuncai, and so forth are high in the research of rural landscape. High-frequency references focused on the evaluation, planning, and heritage of the rural landscape. Then a subsequent summarization and prospect on the research frontier of the rural landscape were implemented from the aspects of rural landscape evaluation and improvement, rural landscape recognition and characteristics, rural landscape planning and sustainable development, rural cultural landscape and heritage, rural landscape projects associated with policies on account of the hotspots analysis and their change of rural landscape. The paper is of important significance for the references and innovations of rural landscape research and the further development of Landscape Architecture.
