Rural landscape practice is a giant system composed of different landscape behaviors brought about by the spatiotemporal evolution and development of a series of rural constructions in China, and its importance has gradually increased. It is reflected at the national strategic level. Looking back on the development of history from 1949 to 2022, taking rural landscape practice as a dynamic changing conceptual category and placing it in a specific historical context to analyze the vertical evolution process, it is found that the development of rural landscape is systematic and pertinent in stages. It is pointed out that the starting point of China’s rural landscape practice is the proposal of the new socialist countryside strategy. This paper investigates the development history and inherent characteristics of China’s rural landscape practice and finds that “the construction of a new socialist countryside” is the starting point of country’s rural landscape practice and further explores and clarifies the staged evolution and development path of rural landscape practice. At the same time, this paper profoundly analyzes the existing problems and causes of rural landscape practice. It points out that due to the different policies and requirements for solving the current issues of rural areas in various stages of rural development, rural landscape practice bears development tasks in different periods, which is systematically lacking and redundant. In addition, it has caused practical problems of standardization of rural landscapes, the single pursuit of beauty, needle-like construction, and “patch” behavior. Based on this, it proposes a development and transformation strategy from “mode” to “customized” thinking and from “extensive” to “refined” review.
