Abstract:Oriental gardens, represented by Chinese gardens and Japanese gardens, began to enter the United States from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Since their development, they have begun to show different attitudes. This article reviews the development of Chinese and Japanese gardens in the United States, takes two oriental gardens in Portland, Portland Japanese Garden and the Lansu Gardenas research objects. It is pointed out that the main differences in the design trend are: the integration and imitation of the display methods, the recreation and display of the purpose of gardening, the creation and description of the landscape in the gardening culture through General layout, water management, mountain folding, sketch, plant con guration and other aspects are compared with their respective characteristics. The research aims to provide useful reference and re ection for the further development of Chinese gardens in the United States.
